Lucky dogs

The story doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 29 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

ARCHIE

History: Archie was bought into rescue because his owner was going back to work full time, and didn't think it would be fair to leave him 10 hours per day.
Description: Archie is very lively and energetic. He is also very eager to please and loves people. Because of his size, (large JR) and stamina, I think he will make an excellent agility dog. He is very well put together, and I'm sure he would be fun to work with.
Rehoming criteria: Archie needs a loving home where he would not be left all day. He is, however, crate trained and can be left alone for four hours, providing he has had enough exercise.

ARCHIE

History: Archie came into us direct from a family home.
Description: Archie is built like an athlete, so be prepared to put on running shoes and get fit!  He is possibly a Collie X Pointer type cross. Archie has the brains, speed and physique for agility.
Rehoming criteria: Archie is used to older children, is sociable with other dogs and loves to play and run.  He is house trained and has not been destructive. He would enjoy any sort of training and we think he would be brilliant for agility.

Happy Ending: Baku has gone to new home. (04/08/08)

BAKU

History: We have had Baku since a pup. He lives with another dog and a baby. We have his full pedigree with KC papers. Rehoming due to lack of time for him with the arrival of baby, certainly no fault of his own.
Description: Grey and white with brown eyes. Well natured and good with other dogs and children although can be a little over zealous at playtime, he is still young and needs a lot of exercise and play in order to keep him occupied and tire him out. He can pull on a lead initially on a walk because he is trained to do Cani-X, but he will calm when he realises its not running time.
Rehoming criteria: Baku  must go to home where his Siberian traits will be understood, he would suit a family with lots of love to give and time to spend, a home check will be carried out and he must be returned to me if it doesn’t work out. He must not be left alone for long periods of time. Ideally looking for someone who will spend the time teaching him agility as he is eager to please and will do anything for a treat. Above all he must go to a good home.

Happy Ending: Bella has a home with a lady who lives close by who is in lodgings at the mo. As soon as the builders have finished her house (2-3 weeks max) she should be able to take Bella off to her new home. (04/08/08)

BELLA

History: Bella lived on a farm the farmer couldn't get her to work sheep. She can be a bit nervous of new people, and she has not been handled much.
Description: Bella is a pretty sable collie bitch. She gets on well with all my dogs. Although she has had no obedience training she is ever so sweet and willing to please .
Rehoming criteria: An experienced active home with someone who has time and patience to get the best out of her.

Happy Ending: Ben has been re-homed to a pet home with a soldier and a teacher. They may well want to do agility with him tho if only for fun. The soldier man runs mountainous miles every day and is now taking Ben with him... great! The teacher wife is firm, kind and understanding. It's the best chance he could get. (02/08/08)

BEN

History: Ben has been on a rough ride so far. Having suffered taunting and neglect, he had lost trust in people. Having been in rescue kennels for more than a year, he now desperately needs someone of his own. With training and re-hab, he has learned to trust again and has now begun to realise that life is good and needs someone to carry on with his progress.
Description: A handsome black and white boy, has a great sense of fun and would give his all for the right person! He has shown great ability in learning new things and would be a fabulous prospect for agility or flyball .He is a muscular power house but very controllable with a soft side and beautiful eyes. He would bond easily with the right person. He's had food guarding issues in the past,  now resolved, but would need a reward-based feeding regime. Has been hit by a car so although lots of work done with great success any owner would need to be aware of this reactivity possibility. Not particularly good with other dogs but a lot better in a few short weeks of training so hopefully he will overcome this.
Rehoming criteria: Ben needs an experienced home in which he could have the love, understanding, exercise and ongoing training he needs to continue the  progress he has been making. New owners should be able to be strong, fair and consistent with lots of praise and reward. Ongoing support offered
Child friendly:
Has lived with children but probably older ones would be better 12+
Able to live with cats:
Probably not
Age: 2-3 years
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: Donation minimum £65
Where dog can be seen: South Wales (14/10/07)

Interim Report: Ben is still looking. He was rehomed briefly with a nice couple but they found him too difficult. That's why I feel a working home is what is needed. Fingers crossed. He deserves a break. (13/5?08)

BLUE

History: Blue has had many homes in a very short time and ended up on death row. He has been reported to have snapped at a young 5year old child over a bone he had hidden. At present he is in foster with other dogs and has a regular visitor who is a 9year old child who he is fine with.
Description: Blue is a handsome brown and white boy with speckled brown front legs, medium sized and long legged. He is a nice boy who loves fetching and tugging. Blue is 5 but dont let this fool you, he is full of energy. Blue would be a medium for agility
.
Rehoming criteria: A home with older children and a family who will give him lots of fun things to do & training. Blue’s 2nd attempt at the dog walk. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=T-emQJv7lXI

Happy Ending: Buster has gone to a pet home where they have had other collies and understand the breed.  (05/08/08)

BUSTER

History: Buster came to us as a result of a couple separating who could then no longer look after him.
Description: Buster is a black/white, slightly rough coated WSD. He is very energetic, intelligent and affectionate (loves his tummy rubbed). Most of all Buster needs a loving home with lots of exercise and would benefit from training, HWTM, obedience or agility.
Rehoming criteria: Somebody with lots of love, time and enthusiasm!

Happy Ending: Charlie has found a home and is doing very well. It was a pet home but the lady said she'd always wanted to try agility so she'll see how things go.  (02/08/08)

CHARLIE

History: Charlie was found as a stray so no history is available.
Description: He is a long leggy black and white border collie. Charlie can be babyish and under confident so he needs socialisation but he is very cuddly. Charlie is enthusiastic and fun, he knows basic training and just needs someone to continue this, he also likes toys and treats.
Rehoming criteria: He can be homed with other dogs. All members of family and any existing dog will have to come to the centre to meet before he will be able to go home. Adopters can be anywhere in the country provided they are happy to travel. Adopters will have to attend a talk.

Happy Ending: Cody Bear has found a fantastic home with two other collies and a wonderful family so can come off the rescue me pages.  They spotted her via Agility Net so a big thank you to you all.  (30/08/08)

CODY BEAR

History: Cody was gifted to a rescue centre.
Description: She is a gorgeous, very intelligent active collie who needs her energy channelling into some form of ‘work’ but sadly not agility. Why appeal for a home on here then you may ask? I know this is a brilliant site for people who are really interested in working dogs in various ways not just agility. Cody may be suitable for another form of work or will make a great playmate for a dog who does do agility. Cody is in a foster home and the only difference between her and many other collies is she is deaf and has an obsessive behaviour. It isn’t so terrible as she ‘corners’ when she is bored or over excited (hence no agility) but is such a great dog in so many other ways. Her deafness isn’t an issue as she knows sign language and facial expressions so just needs to bond with an owner. She is also quite a character! Cody is house trained, walks well on a halti and is generally a good all round dog. She needs work on her recall and can be a bit barky when on the lead but only because she loves other dogs and wants to go play with them. Cody presently lives with another female collie and she loves people and other dogs.
Rehoming criteria: She needs an experienced owner who can bring her training on and understands her needs. She needs to live with other dogs to learn from and who will hopefully help her curb her obsessive behaviour.
Child friendly:
Yes – over 15 yrs old to avoid the giddy type homes. Foster home had a three year old visitor whom Cody was fine with.
Able to live with cats: Not tested but probably would be ok.
Age: 8 months
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: donation to Animal Care is usually £85
Where dog can be seen: Lancaster, Lancashire but I will travel reasonable distance to visit right owner. (04/08/08)

Fingers crossed: Cody has been reserved after her profile was seen on Agilitynet. A wonderful family from Yorkshire has visited her twice and she is going over to their home at the end of this week to see if everything works out.  I don't want to take her off as that will be tempting fate! Happy Ending: Delboy has gone to new home.  (04/08/08)

DELBOY

History: Delboy was a stray from Ireland therefore we have a very limited history.
Description: Delboy is an extremely responsive, clever dog who has shown plenty of working Collie traits here at the centre
.
Rehoming criteria: Delboy needs a stimulating outdoor rural or agility home (not too vigorous however as Delboy has very mild hip dysplasia) where his clever mind can work to its hearts content. He will not cope in a typical indoor, family environment as we have tried and he was returned.
Child friendly:
Not to live with.
Able to live with cats: May herd
Age: 2 years
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes

Happy Ending: Fly has flown to a new home! (04/08/08)

FLY

History: There is no history as Fly was handed in at dog pound.
Description: Fly is about a year to 15 months - slightly larger than your average collie. He is very toy motivated and very fast. He can be a little s#d, but I think this is due to being in kennels. He responds very well to your voice and really wants to please, He will need training but has all the prospects of being a fabulous dog. He appears to have no hang ups at all and just loves life and feel sure he will be very easy to train.
Rehoming criteria: He would be a great second dog for someone who wants to progress in the obedience, agility or flyball world and has the experience to train him, we would also ask that he is rehomed to someone who is not going to leave him all day. He is going to need an active home, but what an amazing boy. He has everything. All homes will be vetted.
Child friendly: Yes, he's friendly and has been brilliant with my daughter who is 11, but I would not recommend him with young children as without the training he is going to knock them over with his zest for life.
Able to live with cats: Not tested, but young enough to train.
Age: 1 year - 15 months
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: Donation required
Where dog can be seen:  Stroud, Gloucestershire (28/05/08)

Interim Report: Fly is out of kennels and in fostering. He has settled into family life with two young children and two dogs and is fab with them. His recall out is 100% and is friendly with everyone and every dog he meets. He is very chilled around the house after he has had his walk racing his little socks off around the woods. He is very very bright and quick and learns command so quickly I actually cannot praise this dog enough for his lovely character and behaviour, He is clean in the house and is quiet at night. He has been left for up to 4 hours with no problems, (23/06/08)

Happy Ending: Geroge has gone to new home.  (05/08/08)

GEORGE

History: George was brought in by an inexperienced young family who didn’t recognise the amount of input having a Collie involves.
Description: George is a short coated black & white collie.
Rehoming criteria: At this stage, George would be too much for young children so older sensible children who could help with basics would be ideal. Training minded owners, who can provide George with the solid start he has previously lacked in, are what we are looking for.
Child friendly:
Older, too excitable for young children.
Able to live with cats: Has lived with previously.
Age: 9 months
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes

Happy Ending: Jack has now found a home through the Collie Trust. (25/08/08)

JACK

History: I have only had Jack a short time, I got him for a companion for my dog but he is too energetic for our family situation. I rehomed him from a family with older children and a cat. I have 2 young children and although he is ok with them he is still mouthing and has knocked them over bounding about. He is starting to settle down a little and would benefit greatly from more energetic training such as agility or flyball.  He hasn't had much previous training.  He is toy and ball orientated and responds well to training.  I believe he has been hit a little in the past so does cower occasionally when you try to hold his collar.  He is very loving and sweet but would benefit from a firm handler with clear boundaries.
Description: He is very slim and could do with more weight.  A very pretty tri-colour boy.
Rehoming criteria:  An active home would suit him best and I would like him to be in a loving environment, so he can get lots of cuddles too cos he loves them.
Child friendly:
Yes but better suited to older children, in my opinion
Able to live with cats: Yes I believe so but this has not been tested by me
Age: 9 months approx
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Unsure
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: He has cost me £150 so would ideally like something back towards that as I had him castrated and microchipped, flead and wormed.

Happy Ending: Jake has gone to a local pet home (05/08/08)

JAKE

History: Jake was bought to be a companion for an old dog. Sadly, due to a change of job he is now left for long periods and is too active for his older friend.
Description: Jake probably falls into Medium size for agility. He has b/w collie colouring. He is a cheeky chap with a lovely temperament and is a good mixer.
Rehoming criteria: Jake will need an active home where he can find an outlet for his energy, he should make a good agility dog.
Child friendly:
Yes
Able to live with cats: Not known
Age: Approx 1 year
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes

Happy Ending: Jazz is going to his new home on Saturday. He has made so much progress at the Rescue Centre we feel confident he will do well in this experienced Collie home even though he won't be doing agility. (27/08/08)

JAZZ

History: Jazz was rescued as a stray from Wales so no prior history is available.
Description: Black and white short coated WSD. Jazz is a large, strong active dog with a good temperament. He loves to be around people and is socialising well with other dogs. He is making good progress with basic obedience and has been successfully introduced to some agility activities.
Rehoming criteria: Jazz will require an active home, although Jazz is still quite immature, his speed, energy and willingness to work suggest he has all the makings of a fantastic agility dog if he can catch the eye of an experienced handler.
Child friendly: Older children
Able to live with cats: Probably yes.
Age: Approximately 1 year
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: CDRS adoption donations apply.
Where dog can be seen:  Chesham, Bucks. (21/07/08)

Interim report Jazz is doing really well. We have serious interest in him from a local couple with Collies and are working with them more this week. So we are sure we have found the best home for him. (05/08/08)

Description: She
is a lovable caring dog who loves to learn and is always eager to please. Jessie loves to play with the ball and always on the go. She loves long walks and being with other dogs and  people. She is excellent with all dogs. She can be left on her own for four hours, is house trained, and is good in the car. She has had basic puppy training, sit, recall etc.
Rehoming criteria:  Jessie needs plenty of exercise and brain stimulation, which her current owner is unable to provide anymore. Jessie would be an ideal agility prospect with lots of energy in return she will make an excellent family pet and loving companion.

Happy Endings: Good news for Jip thankfull. Have just found a fantastic new home for him, actually up here on the islands, with an experienced couple of dog owners who have no children or other pets and a house right on the beach. He is due to leave us for his new home on about the 17 August. Fingers crossed all will go well. (05/08/08)

JIP

History: Jip has been with us from a young puppy. He was a lovely friendly and confident dog. He was fine with our daughter as a baby but unfortunately as soon as she started to toddle he got very stressed and started to growl and hide a lot. We have consulted behaviourists and changed his diet but although he is better he is still exhibiting signs of stress in our situation. We have another baby due in September and are worried that he will not cope with the new arrival. He is fine one-to-one and out of the house and the local kennels love him when he goes to stay, he is back to his old self. When he is in the house he is okay so long as there is no interaction with anyone, he will come seeking attention, sit with you and then growl and run away and hide if you speak to him or touch him. He is good with our daughter and will bring his ball to play with her (we have been working very hard on this over the last year) but his general level of stress is still high when in the house. He has never gone beyond growling, never touched or threatened anyone other than a growl, even if pressured.
Description: A lively playful young collie who, outside of our house, is a happy, friendly and confident dog. Basic training good, perfect recall, great off the lead, does tend to pull on the lead as has got out of the habit of lead walking as we are now very rural. Loves the car and will go anywhere with you. Good to leave in the house/car for hours at a time if necessary He gets on very well with other dogs off the lead, will tend to bark at them on the lead.

Rehoming criteria: Jip needs an active and knowledgeable home where he can get the time and attention he needs and return to the lovely happy dog he was. Very trainable and enthusiastic dog who would be great for an agility, or similar, home.
Child friendly:
He is generally child friendly but due to the circumstances he needs a home with no children or considerably older children.
Able to live with cats:
Yes, has lived with them all his life, can chase but never touches, however currently snappy with them but this seems to be a symptom of his stress here.
